Introduction:

Amoxicillin and Potassium clavulanate suspension is a combination of two antibiotics that are used to treat a number of bacterial infections. In this blend, Amoxicillin is a beta-lactam penicillin group antibiotic that stops the bacteria cell wall formation, and Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that helps to prevent the breaking down of amoxicillin by bacteria itself. 

Augmentin, Amoxil, Clavulin, and Laamox-CV are famous brands of this combination.

The Oral suspension dosage form is ideal for children to swallow easily rather than capsules and tablets. It is tasty and sweet in taste so children can swallow it easily. 

Composition and action of mechanism

In this product, two main ingredients are available Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate. Both are antibiotics and beta-lactam categories.

Mechanism of working of Amoxicillin:

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic of the beta-lactam class. It destroys the ability of bacteria to build cell walls. Most bacteria have a cell wall that consists of peptidoglycan. Peptidoglycan is a unique structure that works as an outer envelope of bacteria that protects it from outer pressures and keeps it safe. 

Amoxicillin activates the enzymes which are responsible for the construction of peptidoglycan. Then, it prevents the bacteria from building further cell walls. Therefore, bacteria die due to the inability of cell wall construction.

Role of Potassium Clavulanate in this combination:

Potassium clavulanate is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Beta-lactamase is a certain type of enzyme that is produced by some bacteria. Some bacteria can break the antibiotics. Clavulanic acid helps to keep bacteria away from amoxicillin from breaking down. Amoxicillin becomes more effective in combination with Potassium clavulanate. 4 

Laamox-CV-DS amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium oral suspension are an antibiotic used in the treatment of bacterial infections. This combination consists of amoxicillin, which is a β-lactam antibiotic, and Potassium Clavulanate, which is a β-lactamase inhibitor. The Oral suspension is available in a 30 ml pack of pet bottles, well packed in a sunlight-proof carton.

AMOXICILLIN AND CLAVULANATE POTASSIUM USES:

Laamox-CV DS Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid is used to treat many infections like otitis media infections, strep throat, pneumonia, cellulitis, urinary tract infections, and animal bites.

Amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium combination is used in urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, sinus infections, tonsillitis, infections due to cat scratches, in tuberculosis that is resistant to classical treatments of tuberculosis. SIDE EFFECTS:

Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium combination has some mild side effects like diarrhea, vomiting, and allergic reactions. It also increases the risk of yeast infections, headaches, and blood clotting problems.

In very rare cases cholestatic jaundice has been found associated with amoxicillin/clavulanic acid use.
