What is Aceclofenac?

Aceclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is used for pain relief and inflammation in several types of arthritis. It works by inhibiting isoforms of the COX enzyme that has a key role in the inflammatory cascade. [1]

Mechanism of Action of Aceclofenac

Aceclofenac is a NSAID. It has many types of mechanisms of action in different symptoms. Primarily, it inhibits the cyclooxygenase (COX) activity that decreases the production of prostaglandins (PGE2) by inflammatory cells by inhibiting IL-Beta and tumor necrosis factors in the inflammatory cells. [2

Second, it inhibits the production of cytokines, interleukins, and necrosis factors (TNF).

What is Paracetamol?

Paracetamol is also known as Acetaminophen and Para-hydroxy acetanilide. It is the top medicine used to treat fever and mild body pain. It blocks the release of a chemical that is a messenger responsible for pain and fever. Basically, it is an antipyretic and analgesic class medicine.[3

Mechanism of Action of Paracetamol

Paracetamol has different pathways of mechanisms of action that are illustrated below:
  • Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis: Paracetamol blocks the action of the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme which is responsible for the production of prostaglandins[4]
  • Activation of descending serotonergic pathways: Paracetamol is capable to activate the pathways in the human brain that is responsible for pain transmission [5
