Ofloxacin, Metronidazole Benzoate, and Simethicone oral suspension is a medication that is used to treat mainly stomach infections, and diarrhea in children.

It is also used to treat several types of bacterial infections including skin infections, urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, soft tissue infections, sexually transmitted infections, eye and ear infections, etc.

Definition and Composition of the Suspension

FOLFLOX-M Suspension is a pediatric suspension that is used in the treatment of diarrhea and dysentery. Ofloxacin metronidazole benzoate suspension contains ofloxacin 50mg and Metronidazole Benzoate eq. to Metronidazole 120mg and Simethicone 10mg per dose of 5ml. It is red colored suspension, slightly bitter in taste due to the characteristics of metronidazole and ofloxacin. It is a flavored suspension.

What is the use of Ofloxacin Metronidazole and Simethicone suspension?

Folflox-M is a combination of three medicaments Ofloxacin, Metronidazole, and Simethicone. Therefore Ofloxacin and Metronidazole are two antibacterial drugs, Ofloxacin prevents bacterial cells from dividing and repairing further and killing the bacteria. Metronidazole cures parasites and anaerobic bacteria that cause infections by damaging their DNA. Simethicone is in the antiflatulent class of drugs. treats symptoms of gas, which may include painful pressure, fullness, and bloating.

METRONIDAZOLE AND OFLOXACIN SUSPENSION USES:

Ofloxacin, Metronidazole, and Simethicone suspension are used to treat diarrhea and dysentery. Ofloxacin and Metronidazole are two antibacterial drugs, Ofloxacin prevents the bacterial cells from dividing and repairing further and killing the bacteria. Metronidazole cures parasites and anaerobic bacteria that cause infections by damaging their DNA. Also used to relieve the symptoms of excessive gas in the gastrointestinal tract, namely bloating, burping, and flatulence. Folflox-M is effective for dracunculiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, and amebiasis.

Ofloxacin and Metronidazole suspension side effects:

The Folflox-M suspension has very few side effects, always consult your doctor before taking this medication. some common side effects that may be found in some patients are Nausea, Dryness of the mouth, Metallic taste, and Headache.

Ofloxacin and Metronidazole drug interaction:

This medication may have some interactions with Antabuse (disulfiram) and Anticoagulants (blood thinners) such as Coumadin (warfarin) medicines. People are often advised not to drink alcohol during systemic metronidazole therapy and for at least 48 hours after completion of treatment. However, FOLFLOX-M is a pediatric use so there are infrequent need for an alcohol warning

Administration and Dosage Guidelines for Ofloxacin, Metronidazole, and Simethicone Suspension

Instructions for Proper Usage:

Ofloxacin, Metronidazole, and simethicone oral used under the guidance of a health professional. The dose of suspension depends on the age and weight of the children. Never use this medication as a self-medication. Always close the bottle tightly after use. The suspension should not be after one month of opening the bottle. 

Dosage Recommendations for Different Age Groups

The recommended dose of Ofloxacin 50mg/5 ml + Metronidazole 120mg/5 ml suspension for children depends on the age, weight, and severity of the infection. Usually, it is prescribed 5 ml twice a day after meals. The right method is to follow the instruction of the doctor about the dose.

However, some children may feel mild side effects after taking this medicine.  

Precautions and Warnings

This medication is having a strong antibiotic and has anti-amoebic characteristics. You need special precautions while giving your children. Consider the following factors while its use:

• Stick to the dose, time, and way of administration prescribed by the doctor.
• Inform your doctor if you have an allergy to ofloxacin, Metronidazole, or anti-amoebic agents.
• If you feel any side effects such as swallowing, breathing problem, swelling on lips, face, throat, or tongue, reach your doctor immediately. 
• Do not increase or decrease the prescribed dose by the doctor.
• Maintain proper hydration to the child by giving electrolytes. 

Storage: 

Store in a cool, dry, and dark place, and keep out of reach of children. Do not let the bottle open after use.
